Plus Size Bride!

So I have been married for just over nine months now and I have been meaning to do this post for ages but just haven’t got round to sitting down to writing it… but here it finally is!

Growing up I always worried about how I would look in a wedding dress and if I would look pretty worrying about not only wearing white but also (being someone who hates exposing her shoulders) the dress!

When it came to my dress, I was so very fortunate to have an amazing friend who happens to be one of South Africa’s top designers, the stunning Kathrin Kidger helped make me my dream dress! I honestly didn’t think I would look as amazing as I did, she surpassed my expectations and created the most amazing dress I think I will EVER wear!

My wedding dress experience was so fun, every single fitting, watching the dress take shape and form to having her there on my special day to dress me was out of this world fun and AMAZING! She will truly never know how much I will forever appreciate her help and dedication to making me look and feel like a million bucks! She is so talented and passionate about her work and designs the most amazing creations with such ease and confidence.

I knew I wanted two things – lace sleeves and lots of LACE! And this is what she created for me! I had a beautiful train and veil and the most amazing lace sleeves and detail around my neck. Did I mention how much I loved my dress:)

I got married on 28 June 2014 to my soul mate, Brett Delport whom I had dated for six years (to the day – we got married on our 6th year anniversary). We got married at the beautiful Collisheen Estate on the North Coast and we proudly did a DIY wedding! Everything from our stationary to my flowers we did. My vision was a vintage inspired, rustic, recyclable wedding in the middle of the sugar cane… and this is what we did! I was lucky enough to have the most amazing man who was so hands on with the whole planning process, the shopping, the creating, the glueing, punching, cutting… it all! As I said in my wedding speech – Brett could now make his very own scrapbook! That is how involved he was in all the crafts!

I will defiantly do a post on my DIY wedding with some tips and advice on DIY’ing it! I do believe that you can save a TON of money by doing things yourself and trust me, service providers (other than the stuff you cannot DIY like the pastor, wedding dress, etc) do make you feel that you cannot do it yourself and guilt trip you with the ‘it is the most important day of your life therefore you should spend thousands on…) – NO! You can throw your dream wedding on a budget! So keep an eye on my blog for my advice and some pics of my wedding!
