What Maddie Loves – Melissa & Doug Chef’s Kitchen from Keachea

I can clearly remember my kitchen set as a child. It was a massive Fisher Price plastic set kitted with a stove, fridge, microwave and it even had a fold out table with a high chair my doll could sit in. I must have played with it until I was at least eight or nine-years-old.

Imagine my excitement when Maddie’s brand new Melissa & Doug Chef’s Kitchen from Keachea arrived at our door just over two weeks ago! A kitchen set was always way up there on my list to one day get my daughter and the thought of playing kitchen with her one day made my heart melt.

I am a HUGE Melissa & Doug fan – every single product I have of there is pure quality and this Chef’s Kitchen is no different! Choosing the Melissa & Doug kitchen set over any product of its kind was a personal no brainer in my mind.

My husband Brett assembled the set in under an hour and a half with the help of Maddie and I – it was quite fun watching the set come to life and Maddie absolutely loved being apart of bringing us each part and helping us test our the doors and other odds while we assembled it.

This beautifully designed wooden, modern play kitchen truly is the perfect toy to harness the budding chef inside each and every toddler who plays with it. The easy to assemble chef’s kitchen includes a fridge and freezer with an innovative working ice maker (my favourite feature on the kitchen) that dispenses two (included) real life looking “ice cubes,” an oven and stovetop with dials that turn and make clicking noises, a microwave with turning plate, a sink with moving faucet and handle, a grocery check list which hangs on a clip, movable hooks, and ample shelving and storage for all the amazing accessories you can purchase for the kitchen. The attention to detail and illustrated features make this kitchen so realistic!

The kitchen stands approximately 1 meter long and more than 0.9 meters high, it is roomy enough for multiple kids to play at once. It is sturdy and made from top-quality wooden construction means it will stand up to years of creative make-believe meal-making! My favourite thing about the kitchen (besides the awesome ice dispenser of course) is the endless amount of accessories you can purchase for the kitchen. Trust me when I say you can literally find anything and everything for the kitchen! From coffee machines to toasters to fridge food and steel pots and pans to pretend food collections, and play pantry products! Now that Maddie has her kitchen we have birthday and Christmas present ideas for years to come and they will continue to keep the kitchen new and exciting!

There’s a boy option too – the set is also available in charcoal and cupcake pink, so the boys can be play play chefs too!

Since bringing in this kitchen set into our home, Maddie has truly loved playing with it every day. It is the first thing she does in the morning when she comes downstairs into her play corner. I too have spent a good amount of time playing with the kitchen myself after Maddie has gone to bed at night – it has truly bought out the inner child in me.

Maddie puts ice into her cup and pretend drinks, serves food for us on her plates and carefully walks over with her plate to give us our ‘dinner’ and has learnt how to ‘wash’ dishes with the sound effects and all! She’s just nineteen months and already loves playing chef! The best part is I know what an investment purchase this set is as it will be played with and enjoyed for years and years to come! It truly would be the most special Christmas present for any little boy or girl who loves to play pretend and learn creative role play games.

I have added the Melissa & Doug 22 piece kitchen accessory set as well as the Melissa & Dough play food grocery cans to Maddie’s kitchen already (the plastic food seen in the pics are not a Melissa & Doug product – they were apart of another food set Maddie previously played with however Melissa & Doug do sell wooden fruit and veggies which we hope to add to her collection in the near future). I highly recommend purchasing the accessory kit with the kitchen as it is a great starter kit to get your toddler ‘into’ the kitchen with all the essentials they would need for basic play on the set.

The set includes a pot with lid, frying pan, cookie sheet, spatula, serving spoon, two plates, two cups, two forks, two knives, two spoons, and a timer the rings (Maddie loves it), all made of durable plastic that are top-rack dishwasher safe. There are also salt and pepper shakers that are super realistic! A wooden olive oil bottle, a dish towel, and an oven mitt.
