One of my (many) favourite things about becoming a mom has been the many adventures being a mom has taken me on, the friends I have made and rediscovering the world through my daughter’s eyes.
I throughly enjoy exposing Maddie to all that the world offers and I am constantly looking for new and exciting things to do with Maddie as well as places to take her.
An amazing source of fun, making new friends and most importantly spending quality together, for me can be found at an amazing app called Adventure Clubs.
WHAT IS ADVENTURE CLUBS?
Adventure Clubs is an app that makes an adventurous life easy for families with small children between the ages of six months to 10 year-olds. A quick download from the App store and a variety of fun and educational activities that aim to socialise and stimulated your toddler are at your finger tips. The app is available nationally and has activities in the following areas in South Africa; Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg and London for those living aboard.
Adventure Clubs offers exciting, planned experiences for families with young kids to easily create epic childhood memories, together with other families. The free app offers an à la carte menu of adventures for families to choose from. Using the app is super easy – activities can be easily browsed according to your area, all information on the ‘adventure’ is clearly given including time, date, place, an age appropriate suggestion and a full explanation of the adventure along with the cost if applicable which ranges from free to just over R300 for your Build-a-Bear adventures and all materials are provided.
Activities range from crafty get togethers under the trees of the Botanical Gardens to seaside safety and surfing fun and visits to Krispy Kreme to see how the doughnuts are made to name a few.
You are able to RSVP on the app and there is a cap on the number of people who can join the activity which is often between 10 and 20 people depending on the activity and payment for the adventure is done through the app via your bank or credit card. It is all completely safe and legit.
OUR ADVENTURES WITH ADVENTURE CLUBS
We have been using the app for just under a year now and we have LOVED all our adventures. I check the app weekly to see what the latest adventures on offer are and if I can squeeze Maddie into any of them. A lot of the adventures are during the week in working hours so it is largely aimed at stay-at-home moms or flexible moms who are seeking adventures for their little ones but there are a few activities that take place on the weekend as well as the school holidays.
MARVELLOUS MESSY PLAY: A SENSORY ART EXPERIENCE WITH ADVENTURE CLUBS:
We were invited by Adventure Clubs to participate in one of their December adventures to share my experience with you all and I had to share one of my favourite monthly adventures – the Marvellous Messy Play!!
This was actually one of my very first Adventure Clubs that I went on almost a year ago which lead me to discovering the gem of an app. Maddie is obsessed with art and I always say that this art class is the messy play you wish you could do at home but you aren’t brave enough to do! The most amazing thing about the messy art class at the beautiful Artbeat Studio on Musgrave Road, is that there isn’t anything or anywhere the kids cannot touch! There is paint everywhere! Even on the ceilings! It is gorgeous!
The Marvellous Messy Play is an amazing sensory activity with plenty of tactile fun for babies and toddlers where we can roll up our sleeves and get full of paint along with our little adventures, in a space that somebody else will clean up afterwards! Where do you sign me up right? 🙂
Their activities are centred around gross and fine motor skills and because messy play is all about freedom for our children, they are encouraged to be free as they paint, jump, play sensory games and explore different textures.
From colourful paint, slime, foam or goo which is all made from non-toxic ingredients (cause you know everything goes in the mouth when you little) every little adventurer and their mom/dad get to take home their treasured masterpieces!
This month’s class was aimed around Christmas crafts and we got to make beautiful santa bags, mistletoes and Christmas cards to name a few.
I HIGHLY recommend the class which usually happens once to twice a month. Their is also Mini Michaelangelos class which is for the six to 12-month-old babies and their parents whilst the Marvellous Messy Play is aimed at 12 month to six-year-olds.
