I recall my brother drew a ‘road’ and created a little town with parkings and shops for me behind my green chalk board with a permanent marker. I really enjoyed playing with cars and would spend hours creating an imagery town filled with adventures. I have fond memories of this.

When I spotted the Melissa & Doug deluxe road rug play set on the Keachea website I knew it had to go onto my Christmas wish list for Maddie and it was certainly one I would enjoy playing with her.

After spending a good month playing with it with Maddie I can finally compile a comprehensive review of the rug and confidently say it is such a gem of a toy for both girls and boys!

Encouraging toddlers to create a world of adventures, from a bustling town to a busy barnyard, the deluxe play set includes a soft and durable machine-washable activity rug which can easily double as a stationary soft rug in your child’s playroom or bedroom as it is amazing quality with skid-proof backing and reinforced border binding. It is a great size too (100 cm by 91 cm) – roomy enough for multiple kids to play. Alternatively it can easily be folded up and stored in a toy box.
It comes with 49 wooden play pieces to bring the rug with both Town and country scenes, to life. Pieces include 15 vehicles, eight town buildings, eight farm structures, six animals, seven people, four traffic signs and a bridge. The pieces include moveable construction vehicles, cars and trucks, play people, buildings, farm equipment and structures, animals, traffic signs, and more! Maddie (along with Brett and I) have absolutely loved playing it and it has been such a gem to keep her busy for hours letting her imagination work over drive and has really piqued her interest in the fire station, the farm and the police station with her asking so many questions about each.
